In a previous post we chronicled three excellent yoga poses for office workers. You might wonder why we would single out yoga fitness poses for this particular demographic, after all, everyone can benefit from yoga classes in Jacksonville!

The reason we’re paying special attention to yoga fitness poses for office workers is that the very act of working in an office can be detrimental to your physical health.

According to Dr. Mercola’s website, “Studies looking at life in natural agriculture environments show that people in agrarian villages sit for about three hours a day. The average American office worker can sit for 13 to 15 hours a day.” All of this sedentary behavior not only puts strain on our eyes, muscles, and nerves, but also increases our chance of premature death. Seriously!

In Part Two of our series on yoga fitness poses for people who sit at a desk all day, we’ll look at three easy poses that can go a long way toward relieving the tension office work creates for your body. Remember, the Yoga Den has yoga classes for all skill levels!

Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

This pose invites you to lie flat on the floor, with your face toward the ceiling. Then, the back is arched upward while the crown of the head remains on the floor. The result is a yoga fitness pose that can help to relieve backache, fatigue, anxiety, and even constipation!

Standing Forward Fold (Uttanasana)

How long has it been since you’ve touched your toes? How about since you’ve been able to put your finger tips on the floor with straight legs? You’d be surprised how many people can’t perform this simple feat of flexibility. Although it’s not very glamorous, performing the forward fold can calm the brain, relieve headache and insomnia, and help you to feel less stressed.

Cat & Cow Pose (Marjaryasana & Bitilasana)

This yoga fitness pose for office workers is actually two poses that compliment each other splendidly. Alternately stretching your back and abdominal region, the cat and cow poses work wonderfully together, and are easy enough for even the stiffest beginner.

We hope these simple yoga fitness poses will help you to see how easy it can be to counteract the negative effects of working in an office all day. Want to learn more about yoga fitness? Contact Yoga Den or sign up for classes in Jacksonville today!
