Things You Should DO During Yoga Teacher Training

  • Be present. This is easier said than done. You’ll be excited, nervous, and maybe even a little intimidated. It will be easy to become self-conscious or braggadocious during yoga training, but that will only derail your efforts.
  • Challenge yourself. Don’t be in a hurry to show off what you do best. Instead, strive to push yourself outside your comfort zone, learning from others with an attitude of humility.
  • Pay attention to your body. You’ll feel tired, sore, stressed, and even exhausted. Embrace these feelings are realize they’re the sign that change is taking place! Allow yourself to take a long bath, enjoy a massage, and consume healthy, nourishing foods.

Things You Should NOT DO During Yoga Teacher Training

  • Force your body to do things it’s not ready for. Becoming a yoga instructor means that you’ll be in charge of helping others to respect their current limitations while always striving for more. Learn to do this in your own practice during yoga instructor training.
  • Be afraid to ask questions. You may find yourself confused about the ‘how’ or ‘why’ of a certain topic covered during yoga instructor training. Others are probably wondering too, so please ask! Also be aware that not every question has a definite answer!
  • Get frustrated. There may be times during your yoga teacher training that you feel completely lost or like everything you were previously taught was wrong. This is normal! Take a deep breath, and think about how you would counsel a student in the same situation. Remember that becoming a yoga instructor is just the first step in a lifetime of learning and practice.
